"Get a bass player who has a lead that works, otherwise be prepared to go through a lot of Bass players" - Useful Information On Starting A Band From McKinney?

Here's another interview for all you lucky lucky people. This time it's a very amusing interview with McKinney.

Why are you in a band?
We're in a band cause it means we get extra tax breaks on our earnings from making candles from ear wax

What bands have inspired you to be in a band?
There is only one buzz bigger than listing to music that makes the hairs on the back off your neck stand up...and that's writing and playing it

Is there a band that you've tried to copy?
It's More like what bands have tried to copy McKinney band members past groups. Listen to Interpol or Rammstien and tell me they never heard of BFG

Have you been in any other bands?
Well Danny just finished working with the Strokes producer and Mike has been in BFG and x Factory Records band Lavolta Lakota

Where did you all meet?
I met Mike on the banks of the river in Paris, we were both in a book shop and went at, the same time, for the same book, got chatting and discovered we just HAD to work together, to many co-incidences not to. The other guys heard the early material and sold their soul to the devil so they could play this stuff live.

How long have you been together?
Mike and myself have been writing and recording for three years or so and Zero, Danny and Ritchie about six months.

Do you all get on fine or are there moments when you want to kill each Other?
Well we are really nasty people and we have already "disposed" of 3 band members. Yes it's a pain to have to audition new musicians but hey at least the roses in the garden are doing well.

What's your favourite band?
The usual "happy" bands and artists, Joy Division, Leonard Cohen, Steps

What's your favourite song by you?
Well mine is Wedding Dress..But Mike and the rest of the guys its Surreal, but any that pays for the luxury beach front property in California will probably become my favourite.

What's your favourite song by another band?
I love "There she goes" ..Perfect pop...album it came from was really disappointing but that track is pure class.

What's your favourite album?
I Love the OTT'ness of Mutter by Rammstein Mike loves that acoustic album of a few years back by Kristin Hersh

Where's the best venue that you've been to?
Mike has played with his last band at The Loreley Stadium in Germany, an old Amphitheatre about 15,000 and is just an awesome place.

Where have been the best fans?
Manchester at the Ritz was fantastic, there was about 900, 1000 people there, moshing away to the McKinney vibe, we just got so high of the response that I could not sleep for a week.

What's the worst position you've been in with the law?
I have never slept with a Judge so that question is null and void.

What's the best Country that you've toured in?
Not been abroad with McKinney yet but west coast USA is a fantastic place to play

What advice would you give to people starting a band?
Get a bass player who has a lead that works, otherwise be prepared to go through a lot of Bass players, and if you know you got something special then don?t stop and don?t listen to any negative comments, just trust your own ears, because your views are as valid as anyone else.

Why did you choose to be in a band then any other job?
It's something you don?t actually have any choice over, you just have to do it.

Are there any small bands out there that you think we should look out for?
Well apart from Mike were all under 5ft 5. Just looks like we're standing further away from you than we actually are.

Is there an annoying question that you always get asked?
This One ha

Finally and most importantly do you like cheese?
Cheese is an invention of the Devil.
